The School offers Tap, Classical Ballet & Modern Theatre Dance. These are considered to be the
heart of all styles of dance. The three faculties compliment each other considerably. While most
pupils opt to study each of them, it is important to stress that they do have a choice and may choose
which they study. Each category of dance has a set syllabus to be prepared for examinations, and a
programme of general Class work. The class work is a deeper study of some aspects of the exam
syllabi which gives the children an opportunity to use their skills in alternative ways.

A magical form of dance for Centuries. Children the world over have been in awe of the
Costumes, Dancers and of course those famous Point Shoes allowing the Ballerina to dance on the very
tips of their toes. The basics are taught from the first class to promote safety and understanding.
These are general stretching of the legs and feet using the muscles and bones correctly, style,
musicality and importantly good posture. A study of Character Dance was introduced into the Grade
Exam Syllabi in the early nineties, giving the children a further insight into the styles depicted in
some famous Ballets.

The rhythmical and energetic sound of taps moving at speed to music have fascinated people for many a year. Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and ‘Bo jangles' being some of the original. More recently 'Tap Dogs' have up-dated the style and tempo. Once a dancer has studied tap, they will find it impossible to keep their feet still! Tapping down the aisle in your local supermarket or practising a shuffle ball-change under their school desk. In recent years, the image of tapping to piano has been replaced by more modern styles and music. Tap has also been a popular hobby, and form of exercise for adults, and the ISTD offers an Exam Syllabus for beginners to enjoy. As well as Grade Examinations, Pupils also have the option of the Tap Awards, covering Bronze, Silver and Gold. |

Dolls' and the backing dancers of countless T.V shows such as ‘Stars In Their Eyes' and ‘The Royal

Though most pupils choose to undertake exams they are optional. In preparation, the children are
required to attend Exam Classes on a weekly basis in addition to their regular lesson to aid confidence.
These will be on another weekday. As with all types of exams undertaken, extra study is required.
During the exam they are marked on knowledge of the syllabus, musicality, performance, technical
understanding and appearance, confidence and posture.
All examinations are taken under the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) which is recognised worldwide.
After entering for their first exam, each pupil is allocated a 'pin' number. This will remain their pin
for life and is required each exam session.
